Analysis of Data, Probability and Probability Distributions
Management is not just an art, it is also a science (see CC/BF1). Application of management science presupposes a fair understanding of the various quantitative techniques involved. This lesson is the fi rst in the quanti-trilogy (also see CC/QM2 and CC/QM3). The author, Dr. A K Rao, Professor of Quantitative Methods and OR at IIMB, provides a management perspective to what, in common parlance, is Statistics. Using the framework of a typical manufacturing industry he gathers data, samples the population and demonstrates how to make management sense out of chaos. This lesson deals with all the fundamentals, without losing the traditional quantitative rigour. This lesson is a refresher for the well initiated and a handy tool for the uninitiated. Midway through a cricket or baseball match, the newly enlightened may be tempted to revise their bets.
