Competitiveness
Strategising in business is akin to fi ghting a war with the enemy. The author of this lesson, Prof. M J Xavier, formerly Professor of Marketing at IIMB, takes one to the Battle of Canne, 216 B.C (Hannibal versus Varro) to illustrate this analogy. Examples from India and abroad illustrate the various models of competition: the Game and Sports Model, the Biological Model, the Life Model, the War Model and the Economic Model. The Porter proposition of competitive advantages is debated in the context of recent events (1994 to 1996). The author provides a framework for competitor tracking and competitor analysis. Six strategies from the Panchatantra (ancient Indian text - animal stories) show how to fi ght competition. (Also see CC/BF4).
