The Individual: Perception and Attitudes
This lesson delves deeper into the dimensions of human behaviour. The objective is to understand the individual. Understanding the individual means understanding the constituents of perception, attitude, motivation and personality. This lesson by Dr. R Ravi Kumar, a Professor of Behavioural Science at IIMB, deals with the fi rst two. The next lesson by the same author covers the last two (see HM/OB3). Factors which lead to the individual’s psychological orientation are discussed. The meaning of perception and perceptual errors come alive. How can managers understand attitudes? And how can managers infl uence and change attitudes? Components of attitude: Cognitive, Affective and Behavioural Readiness are explored. Other inputs include the Perceptual Process, the Attributional Model and the application of the Concept of Attribution.
